AYEBRONMU CHURCH

ABOUT THE CHURCH

The Ayebronmu church was worshipping at New Town a suburb in Suhum. In the year 1987, Wofa Johnson Adu Asare a member of the church decided that there should be a Sabbath School branch at L/A Primary School. He consulted some group of church members who went to discuss with the then District Minister, Pastor Richard Ntriakwah. Those who consulted Pastor Ntriakwah were Eld. Alex Bekoe, Ebenezer Ansah, Kofi Christian, Maame Dompreh, Dorcas Kweinortey and Kwame Boadi. The District Pastor and the District officers accepted their proposal.

After a year, the church moved to Presby J.H.S. At Presby, the church had to share the place of worship with Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship and therefore sometime had to wait for them to close their meeting before service can begin. Because of this inconvenience, the church moved to the ‘B’ block of the school.

The church was fortunate to have David Tetteh who was then a church member of the mother church to sponsor the church with car battery which was used to supply light at the premises since there was no lighting system at the ‘B’ block.

One day the premise was locked denying the church of place of worship. Members therefore moved back to the mother church.

Wofa Johnson and Eld. Alex Bekoe went back again to ask for permission from the then Presby Minister who granted their request.

After permission had been granted, the mother church asked church members who were living around the Presby community to join the Sabbath school branch. Some of the members who joined were Eld. and Mrs. Ankomah, Eld. Samuel Pimpong, Eld. and Mrs. Quarshie, Eld. and Mrs. Osafo Tuffour, Eld. Lawrence Okyere, Mr. and Mrs. Opare Mrs. Gloria Boateng, Stella Ahiabu, Joyce Asirifi, Francis Appiah, Mr. Samuel Amoako Larbi among others.

The church saw the need to organize a crusade to win souls to beef up the membership of the church. Therefore in the early 1990, Pastor Amfo Snr. Led a crusade at Kibi station and after the crusade, the newly baptized members were asked to join the church at Presby JHS.

Due to the increasing number of membership, in 1991, the church moved to Anglican nursery to worship. At Anglican Nursery, the school authorities one day divided the place of worship into two to make way for their increasing school population. They therefore released one of their JHS classrooms to the church.

From Anglican JHS, in the later part of the year 1991 the church moved to Star of Suhum Schools to worship. Whiles at Star of Suhum Schools, the church decided to acquired its own place of worship.

The current place of worship was acquired on 29th May, 1992 through Mr. Moses Domptey. He first consulted Elder Bismark Quarshie, when he heard of the sale of the plot. The church was hard pressed for money. Therefore funds were solicited from members of the mother church at Ayekotse. Members contributed generously and the plot was bought at a cost of Three Hundred Cedis (¢300.00 now GH ¢ 30.00).

The construction of the church building started on 9th September, 1992 under the able guidance of the late Eld. Sylvanus K. Botwe.  During the roofing stage one personality who was instrumental was Eld. Samuel Odame Tawiah. In 1997, the conference saw the need to organize it to full fletched church. So an inspection was organized whiles at S. O. S. Consequently, the church was organized into the sisterhood of SDA churches on June 6, 1998 after the church has moved in to the current place of worship in early part of 1998.  The church leaders who formed the nucleus of the church at that time were Eld J. O. Tuffour, Theresah Ofori, and the Late Susana Dede. Now the church building has fully been completed under the jurisdiction of the current District Pastor, Michael Birikorang Baidoo.
