About Maranatha Church
As part of the global Evangelism crusade, Evangelist Victor Acquah came to Suhum in August 2004 to hold a two weeks evangelistic crusade at Suhum Lorry Park. After the crusade, by God’s grace a number of souls came to Christ and were baptized in September 2004.
The district decided to establish a company church comprising the new converts and old members who lived in and around the Roman Catholic School area. A twelve member committee was set up for that purpose.
Upon a successful completion of the committee’s work, the Maranatha S.D.A church was officially opened on Saturday 23rd October 2004 by Pastor Kwaku Okyere Baffour with the help of the district officers.
The church began with an initial membership of 29. The leadership of the church included the following people:

The church held services in rented kindergarten classroom located at house with number AYE/F18. The church faced problems with attendance in the first few years as some of the founding members could not continue with us for various reasons (transfers, death, travel etc.) while we struggle to bring new souls to replace them. Also, we were quite uncomfortable in our place of worship. As time wore on, there arose the need to acquire a piece of land for church building. The church held a harvest on 5th November, 2005 to raise funds which were used to purchase our current plot land
In the later part of 2006, the church faced a major problem which necessitated for the construction of the church building. A poultry farm was established in the house in which our place of worship was located. The district executives met and decided that a fundraising service should be held on 1st December, 2007 at Ayebronmu SDA church premises to raise funds for the construction of church building.
Ayebronmu church assisted Maranatha church to raise an initial amount of GhȻ1000.00 to which Mr. Amo of Ghana commercial bank Accra, added GhȻ500.00 to make a total of GHȻ 1500.00.
With the money accrued from the harvest, work started on the church building. The entire district came to help the hired workers on Sunday, 27th January 2008 to speed up work on the building. After raising the building to a habitable status, various people including Mr. Andrew Boadi Assisted in furnishing it.
We moved into the new church building on Saturday 23rd February 2008. Work though continued on the building.
God being so good, the church always get new members to replace those who move out on transfers. A typical example is Mr. and Mrs. Asante who generously gave the church Ȼ1000.00 to tile the rostrum. Though a handful of the pioneers still remains with us yet the church grows stronger and stronger. After eight years of existence, Maranatha church has fifty baptized members and several yet to be baptized in the baptismal class and the children Sabbath school class.
The church was organized on 23rd February, 2013 by the late Pastor Tuwmasi Ankra, Pastor S. B. Arlo, and Pastor Okyere Baffour, in the era of Pastor I. F. Boateng as the district Pastor.
The church continued to grow with the help of God through the Evangelistic approach such us community visit, charity and home mission of the Church leaders and Members.
With the increasing number of youth in the church, the youth was mobilized with the help of Eld. Andrews Gyan and Eld. Peter Sarfo Boadi and hence Maranatha Youth choir was formed and inaugurated on 9th April, 2015.
The members of the church continued to increase and the need was felt in the year 2015 to start a permanent church building, this was immediately put into action as the 2015 and 2016 yearly harvest was directed towards church building.
Materials such as stones, sand, iron rods etc were purchased and hence blocks were laid in preparation towards the new building.
Ground breaking was held on 12th of March 2017 by Pastor Michael Birikorang Baidoo for the new building and currently the building is at the footing level with pillars already fixed in.
We can only be grateful to our Almighty God for how far he has brought us. We want to express our profound gratitude to Cecilia Adwoa Nyarko of United States for her continuous support to the church, many thanks also to Elder Bismark Quarshie, Elder Samuel Pimpong and all the district Elders for their support and prayers to the church.
