Church History

People who donated towards establishment of the church.

The following brothers and sisters, contributed earnestly towards the establishment of the Newtown Church. they are;
 George Owusu Mensah , Edmond Sarfo Yirenkyi, Madam Mercy Adi, Eld Daniel kwateng and family, Samuel Ayeh, Esther Appiah and Monica Owusu Mensah.

We express our sincere gratitude to them, and pray for God's continuous blessing on them and their family.

 

These brethren and their family offered massive assistance towards the new building project. They are;

Eld. Appiah and family, Mr. Emmanuel Addo, Philip Asamoah, Rita opare,  Eld kwateng and family, Elder Osafo, Late Enoch Adarkwa, Emmanuel Asare  and Oscar Owusu.

Suhum New Town SDA Church was established on 11th February, 1995. Its’ pioneer members were of the Ayekotse church members who were staying in and around Suhum roundabout.  The church services were organized at the Newtown Municipal Assembly Junior High School, near Suhum Roundabout.

The church began with 25 baptized members and ten (10) children. The idea of starting a church at the roundabout was a brainchild of Pastor RYP Amponsah the then District Pastor of Suhum SDA Church.

The nominated pioneer elders and leaders were:

first Elder; Daniel Kwateng, second Elder; George  Owusu  Mensah, Secretary; Edmund  Sarfo Yirenkyi , Deacon; Samuel Ayeh, Deaconess; Madam Mary Bediako, Treasurer; Madam Mercy Adi, Personal Ministry; Mr. Samuel Ayeh, Sabbath School Supt.; Eld. Asare Ferguson, Songs Leader; Ransford Appiah, Youth Leader; Miss  Esther Asare.

The rest of the members were Ruth Kwateng, Martha Aryeh, Doris Ohenewah, Mrs. Hollison, Faustina  Asare , Vivian Adakwah, Victoria Botwe , Christiana Koranteng , P.K. Adjei, Mr Rexford Ayebeng, William Dwamena, Bampo Kwasi , Philip Darko, Philip Asamoah , Kwasi Ebenezer, Afum Stephen.

The children were; Rita Dede, Bright Okumanin, Joshua Ofosu, Offei Antwiwaa Kofi Michael, Diana Owusu, Laabea Hanna and Alexander Adu.

The church grew physically and spiritually over the years and there was the need to acquire permanent place of worship. Hence,on 15th April 1999 the church acquired a four (4) plot of land at Newtown north near Bra Emma’s church.  A temporal structure was erected in 2008 to be used as church house for worship. The church finally moved to its’ own plot to start worship on 23rd may 2010.

At the moment the church is housed in a permanent building which is about seventy (70} percent complete. The church building can house about five hundred congregation.

The membership of the church  as at now is about one hundred and thirty five baptized members and forty five children.

The following pastors have served in the church as District Pastors:Pastor RYP Amponsah , Pastor  Oteng Asare, Pastor Okyere Kwaku Barffour, Pastor I F Boateng, Pastor Albert Darko and Pastor Michael Birikorang Baidoo the current district pastor.

PROPERTIES OF THE CHURCH

One permanent cement blocks church building, one temporal wooden structure church house, one pulpit, one cupboard, five wooden chairs use for divine service, one hundred and twenty two plastic chairs, one large table use by Sabbath school department, two other wooden tables and chairs for secretary and the treasurer, two record books one new and one old ,one announcement               book, four benches one amplifier, one microphone, two speakers and a modern organ.
